Shake Your Tailfeather

Continuing the look for our series of ESG releases for Fire Records, we took a playful take on the energy inherent in their single “Dance.” The song is funky fun, while still sounding like only ESG can. You might have heard it as part of the recent xbox campaign. The sleeve made such an impact on record store shelves that it sold out in a matter of days. Everybody wants to dance, and everybody wants to dance now!

Papa’s Got A Brand New (Brand New) Pigbag!

Few projects have allowed me to be creative in so many areas as the reissue of post-funk pioneers Pigbag’s collected works. Hand-crafted type abounds, as does a playful approach to their old photos and a complete re-creation inspired by their original record covers. The support of both the band and the label inspired me to push it even further. Every last inch of these packages bristle with the combined energy. Once we had the look established, the playful diecut took the whole thing to another level. The “awesome” level! Plus, we couldn’t settle for spreading that joy across just one release when we had Volume Two waiting in the wings:

I wish I could show you all of the pieces as each individual disc sleeve still makes me smile. Not to mention having a dayglo monkey wearing glasses and a beard! Head on over to the facebook fanpage to see more of the funky goodness.

Man That Design Smells Delicious

qmainefracIntroducing the world to the fine brew from Quartermaine Coffee Roasters over the past decade, we have designed everything from in-store banners and menu boards to point-of-purchase displays and packaging for multiple brands among other things. To me, a branding system is only as good as it’s lowest common denominator – in this case, the wholesale frac-pack. Still looks damn good if I do say so myself!

Better Days Coming Now

sishood

This project afforded me the opportunity to work with two of my favorite things in music – The Sisterhood of Convoluted Thinkers with their quirky musicality and husband/wife exuberance and the esteemed Teenbeat Records label. Rob and Jeannine gave me an advance disc for inspiration and their general fascination with insects kept popping out at me. They also stated a desire to be involved with the manufacturing of the final product and using recycled material as much as was possible. I started to push against the parameters of my original notions wrapped around these new directions and settled on a look that captured their sense of fun, but wasn’t dependent on perfect registration when printing the covers. They ended up doing an amazing job and after I flipped for some vegetarian Indian fare they stopped giving me the hairy eyeball for turning them into ladybugs (well – Jeannine didn’t mind – haha.)

Man Versus Bear

grizzlyman

Werner Herzog has been at the helm of so many amazing movies and Grizzly Man doesn’t disappoint. It was an honor to work with Discovery in giving the media kit a little razzle dazzle. I couldn’t shake the notion of how the bears had nearly swallowed Timothy Treadwell long before the tragic (but seemingly inevitable) end. Simplifying our sleeve to just a pouch, I used the additional sheet size to print a card to drop in with the image of the bear that was then seen through the die-cut of Treadwell’s profile and capture everything I wanted to convey to the viewer. (By the way – the film is worth watching if only to see Treadwell break character when the fox runs off with his hat – classic!)
